Men’s Basketball 3-0 for First Time Since 2017-2018

Men’s Basketball 3-0 for First Time Since 2017-2018

The Florida State College at Jacksonville men's basketball team continued their dominant play Tuesday evening at FSCJ's South Campus Gymnasium where they hosted Jacksonville's own North Florida Prep, a basketball program known for fostering and developing college ready talent.

FSCJ jumped out early with pressure to take a comfortable 52-20 lead into halftime behind the hot 3 point shooting and scoring effort from freshman guard Eddie Mitchell. North Florida Prep increased their scoring output in the second half, but it was still not enough to keep pace with FSCJ. Sophomore forward Raheem Taplin erupted with a 19 point scoring effort in the second period to widen the gap.

"Our team is buying into a selfless culture so far. They know any night could mean someone else has a hot hand and not only are they understanding of that, but encouraging and welcoming of it," says Coach Putyrski. "It's a joy to be a part of, but it is only going to get more difficult from here."

The victory over North Florida Prep marked the first time FSCJ has started 3-0 since the 2017-2018 season. FSCJ will be back in action Saturday at 2:00pm when they host NJCAA Division I Florida Foe and also undefeated, Hillsborough Community College (2-0). The game is the second of a five game home stretch.
